Said Osmanov arrested again

Today, at about 7:00 p.m. Moscow time, the Elista City Court ruled to arrest Said Osmanov, who had been earlier placed in custody on charges of desecrating a statue of Buddha. Now, the Dagestani athlete is suspected of inciting ethnic hatred.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10 the Supreme Court of Kalmykia released the athlete on bail of 150,000 roubles, but soon after release, he was detained again.

"Said was arrested for 27 days – till the end of the inquiry, that is, until July 2. All our arguments about procedural violations in Osmanov's case were treated as insignificant by the court. We disagree with the judgement and will appeal against it," the advocate Murad Velikhanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that despite the fact that the trial was open, the judge did not let journalists into the courtroom.

"The fact that journalists were not allowed to be present at an open trial is a gross violation. Besides, the judge did allow us even to video the announcement of the judgement," said Velikhanov.
