Prisoner dies in penal colony in Volgograd

In Volgograd, a 44-year-old prisoner perished in the penal colony No. 3, as a result of the injuries he got when working with an angle grinder. The inspection has started to check the circumstances of the accident, reports the press service of the Department for the Volgograd Region of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN).

The Prosecutor's Office and the regional department of the State Labour Inspectorate have conducted a planned inspection of the observation of the law requirements in involvement of prisoners to work. Numerous violations have been revealed in the field of labour protection and safety at once in several penal colonies, reported the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the Volgograd Region on June 8.

According to Oksana Cheredinina, Senior Assistant on Media Relations to the Prosecutor of the Volgograd Region, in 2015, regional penitentiary institutions registered eight cases when prisoners got injuries while working at production facilities, including one case of fatal injuries, the "V1.ru" reports.
