Evkurov reproaches rights defenders for attempts to confront him with Kadyrov
Law enforcement bodies of Ingushetia cannot efficiently investigate the March attack on rights defenders, because of the Chechen trace in the case, said Igor Kalyapin, a rights defender, at a meeting of HRC members with Yunus-Bek Evkurov. In response, he demanded not to use Ingushetia as a base for human rights work in Chechnya and stated the attempts to quarrel him with Ramzan Kadyrov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a series of visiting sessions of the Russian Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) in Northern Caucasus is taking place from May 30 to June 9.
At the meeting with Evkurov, Igor Kalyapin complained that the Investigating Department for Ingushetia (ID) of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) are inefficient in investigating the attack on the office of rights defenders.
He offered Mr Evkurov to jointly ask the ID of the ICRF for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) to take the case to inquiry; so that all the orders of the investigating authorities could be directed to Chechnya from Pyatigorsk.
The head of Ingushetia has expressed his dissatisfaction with the way rights defenders had organized their work in the region, which he has treated as an attempt to confront him with Kadyrov.
According to Evkurov, the Joint Mobile Group (JMG) of rights defenders had rented an apartment in Ingushetia without a due coordination with the authorities.
