Yerevan experts see political sense in recognition of Armenian Genocide by Berlin

The recognition by Berlin of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire will promote the similar processes in other countries. This opinion was voiced by Armenian experts on the eve of the voting in the Bundestag. According to them, in Germany, the political decision on the issue was made prior to the voting, despite the possibility of deterioration of the German-Turkish relations. Turkey hoped that the Bundestag would decline the resolution on the Armenian Genocide.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, by the majority of votes, the German parliament has approved the resolution to recognize as a genocide the killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.

More than 20 states have already recognized the Armenian Genocide. More than 1.5 million Armenians were killed as a result of the tragic events of 1915.

The recognition by the Bundestag of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide can seriously harm the German-Turkish relations, which are very deep. This opinion was voiced by turcologist Ruben Melkonyan, the deputy dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Yerevan State University.

Furthermore, Ruben Melkonyan has also noted that the agreement on refugees between Turkey and the EU will play a great role in the above issue.

According to political analyst Ruben Megrabyan, an expert of the Armenian Centre for Political and International Studies, Germany bears high responsibility for the events of 1915, since it was then the main ally of the Ottoman Empire.
