Germany again faces increase in number of Chechens seeking asylum

According to the German Federal Ministry of the Interior (known as BMI), since the second half of 2015, the country faces an increase in the influx of migrants from Russia, the vast majority of which are natives of Chechnya. Since 2013, this is the second burst in the number of Chechen natives applying for refugee status in Germany.

The message received by the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot" on May 29 reports that 82.3% of applications for political asylum in Germany are filed by Chechen natives. The same is also reported by the newspaper "Die Welt".

According to the German BMI, in the period of January 1-May 23, 2016, out of 2728 applications filed by Russian citizens, 2244 were filed by natives of Chechnya.

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees of the Federal Republic of Germany reports that in the first four months of 2016, the quota for asylum in Germany for Russian citizens was only 5.8%.

The newspaper "Die Welt" mentions the living conditions in the Chechen republic as "repressive", in addition to the "poor economic situation" in Chechnya.
