For the third time this year, IS declares its involvement in attacks in Dagestan

The armed clashes in Derbent were the third incident since the start of the year, in which the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) (banned in Russia) has declared its involvement. At least six persons were killed in these attacks, mostly, power agents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 14 in the city of Derbent, when checking apartments in one of the high-rise dwelling blocks, law enforcers faced fire opened at them. As a result of a special operation that followed four suspected militants were killed; also the head of the criminal investigation of the local ROVD (District Interior Division) and an OMON (riot police) fighter perished; and 15 other power servicemen were wounded.

Let us note here that the total number of victims (17 people) made 95% of all law enforcers' losses suffered during the first three months of this year, amounting to 18 killed and wounded law enforcers.

Earlier, on March 29, in the section of the Federal Highway "Kavkaz", near the "Uytash" Airport and the settlement of Novy Khushet, two motor vehicles, which carried power agents, seconded from Krasnoyarsk, were blown up. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan, one person was killed and two others were wounded by the blasts. This attack was organized by the IS unit in Northern Caucasus, said the IS' information resources.

On February 15, at the GIBDD (traffic police) post in the Derbent District, near the village of Djemikent, a car went off. Dagestani authorities confirmed the death of two policemen and the car driver-suicide bomber, and 18 wounded persons. Other sources reported four casualties. The IS then stated that the explosion was committed by a suicide bomber from the IS unit in Northern Caucasus.
