17 power agents suffer in special operation in Derbent

Today, in the city of Derbent, an apartment was blocked in a high-rise building; and four suspected militants were killed in a special operation. According to power agents, the blocked apartment was used as a shelter by suspects of committing on May 9 the murder of the 82-year-old Gadjiakhmed Kaziakhmedov, the father of the former Mayor of the city Felix Kaziakhmedov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on 9 May in Derbent the body of the 82-year-old Gadjiakhmed Kaziakhmedov with gunshot wounds was found. Investigators have announced an attempted robbery as the basic version of the murder investigation; then a version appeared that it could be an extremists’ revenge.

In a shootout with the bandits, two law enforcers were killed, and 15 others received wounds of varying gravity.

"The total number of victims is 17 persons; one of them died at hospital, the second one – on the spot; they are all law enforcers," the TASS quoted its source from the Central City Hospital of Derbent.

According to the source, 13 wounded patients in the condition of moderate gravity have been transported to Makhachkala, four others stay in hospital in Derbent; the condition of one of them is also of moderate gravity.

After storming the above apartment, the Investigating Department for Dagestan has initiated a criminal investigation into the attempt on the life of law enforcers, the RIA "Novosti" reports referring to a source from the above Department.

  • Court releases Malgobek law enforcers accused of extortion

    Three policemen from Ingushetia, accused of using violence against a detainee and extortion, have been released. The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has explained that the period specified by law for the preliminary investigation had expired and their further detention is illegal.
