Residents of Mekhelta demand increased compensations for destroyed housing

A representative of the residents of the Dagestan village of Mekhelta, who have been trying for ten years to get compensations for their houses destroyed during a natural calamity, has filed a motion claiming to increase the amounts requested from the Ministry of Finance in connection with the change in market value of housing.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the following villagers of Mekhelta: Alimirza Alimirzaev, Saigitaga and Shayikhmagomed Shayikhmagomedov have been trying for ten years to receive compensations for their houses destroyed by mudslides and torrential rains. The authorities of Dagestan argue that the due compensation money has not yet arrived from the federal budget.

On May 13, at the session of the Tver Court of Moscow, which considered the lawsuit of Mekhelta villagers about the collection of compensation funds from the Russian Ministry of Finance, the advocate Sapiyat Magomedova filed a motion asking to correct the lawsuit points. She explained that since mid-2006 the claimants have repeatedly appealed to the authorities at different levels with a demand to compensate their losses, to which "they received assurances about the imminent arrival of the funds to pay off the damage from the federal budget."

"The authorities of Dagestan requested 64 million roubles, of which only a half was allocated; the other half was promised by federal authorities, but never allocated. Regarding the allocation of lump sums, they haven't also reached the victims," Ms Magomedova told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Magomedova's motion says that the claimed amounts should be increased with account of the order of the Russian Ministry of Construction "On Average Market Price of One Square Meter of Living Area for Subjects of the Russian Federation in Quarter II of 2016".
