Dagestani journalists: religious leaders try to get into power

Religious leaders have decided to get into power on the background of mistrust of Dagestani residents to the leaders of the republic. This opinion was voiced in the course of discussion by participants of the project "Games of Journalists". According to the journalists, on the eve of the elections to the Parliament, religious leaders use the "People against Corruption" Party as a springboard.

The first meeting of the press club "Games of Journalists" took place in Makhachkala on May 7. The first topic of discussion was announced as "Religious leaders decide to be engaged in politics", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In the course of the discussions, Alisa Aldasheva, a journalist of the Avar newspaper "Millat", has noted that while combating extremism, the authorities "have focused on the distribution of correct concept of Islam."

"However, today, people are tired of waiting for a miracle from the authorities and can turn in the direction of the religious leaders. And the 'People against Corruption' Party can become a springboard to bring the religious leaders into power," Alisa Aldasheva believes.

"I am sure that the religious figures from the Muftiate would like to get into power. They are ambitious, organized, and loyal to their leader," Ramazan Radjabov, a correspondent of the edition "Novoe Delo", has stressed in the course of the discussions.

The journalist has also suggested that being led by Magomedrasul Saaduev, "the Party can gain 10-15 seats in the National Assembly." "I also suppose a scenario in which the 'People against Corruption' Party will quit the election campaign under pressure from the authorities. If the Party is allowed to take part in the elections, we can expect a tough confrontation between religious figures and the official authorities," Ramazan Radjabov has said.
