Vladikavkaz opens memorial plaque to honour journalists killed during World War II
In Vladikavkaz, a memorial plaque in memory of 14 journalists of North Ossetia, killed during World War II, was opened at the entrance to the House of Press, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
The memorial plaque honours the names of Anton Bekoev, Savkuz Alborov, Khazbi Dzeboev, Tamerlan Dzakhov, Volodya Didarov, Tsini Edziev, Kaspolat Kamberdiev, Soltan Kesaev, Volodya Kulaev, Ivan Kurgosov, Alexander Morgoev, Zaurbek Farniev, Georgy Fidarov, and Sozryko Khetagov.
The idea to create the memorial plaque was initiated by Marina Bitarova, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Rastzinad" (True) and the Committee for mass communications of North Ossetia.
In the 1970s, Boris Dzugaev, a veteran of World War II, then deputy editor of the newspaper "Rastzinad" and the chairman of the Union of Journalists of North Ossetia, was engaged in collection of the names of the journalists killed during World War II.
According to the Glasnost Defence Foundation, in 1991-2015, in Northern Caucasus, at least 56 journalists were killed, perished or disappeared.
In 2013, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, a correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" and the deputy editor of the "Novoe Delo", was shot dead in Dagestan. According to the basic version of the crime, he was killed because of his professional activities.
