Ruben Melikyan elected NKR’s Ombudsman

The Parliament of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has approved the candidacy of Ruben Melikyan for the post of the republic’s Ombudsperson.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 4, Yuri Airapetyan, the previous NKR’s Ombudsman addressed the Parliament asking to terminate his authorities before term.

During the voting, 27 MPs supported Melikyan, two were against him, and four MPs abstained.

Ruben Melikyan is the Rector of the Academy of Justice of Armenia.

The Law on the Ombudsperson was adopted in the NKR in May 2005. The respective institution started working in May 2008.
