Dagestani lawyer suspected of financing militants

In Dagestan, a lawyer has been detained, who is suspected of involvement in an illegal armed formation (IAF) and funding militants in the amount of 50,000 roubles.

According to investigators, in August 2014, in an outskirt of the village of Gotsatl, the Khunzakh District, the above suspect met IAF members, among whom there was Gadjimurad Gadjiev, wanted on suspicion of committing terrorist and extremist crimes.

The lawyer joined the IAF and agreed to help its members, in particular, by transporting them, and delivering food and money to them, investigators assert. According to their version, the lawyer transported militants to the village of Orota; and in spring 2015 in the outskirt of the village of Tlokh, the lawyer gave 50,000 roubles to Gadjiev.

Now, they decide on the suspect’s freedom restriction measure; and a criminal case has been opened on financing and taking part in the IAF.

Let us note here that in March this year it was reported that Gadjimurad Gadjiev, a figurant in the above lawyer’s case, had been killed in the Khunzakh District, but then this information was not confirmed.
