Athlete Adlan Varaev disappears in mountains of Chechnya
On May 3, Adlan Varaev, a well-known athlete, Vice-President of the Russian Wrestling Federation, disappeared in the high-mountainous Itum-Kali District of Chechnya. His car was found near a cliff. The search for Adlan Varaev involves law enforcers, rescue workers and volunteers from the local community.
"On May 3, Adlan Varaev disappeared in the Argun Gorge. Presumably, he fell off a cliff into the river when he was taking photos. His body might be swept over with the river flow. Till present, his body has not been found," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a staff member of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
Today, the search has been resumed at 6:00 a.m. Moscow time. This was reported by Timur Taisumov, the chief of the press service of the Chief Directorate for Chechnya of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE).
54-year-old Adlan Varaev was a senior coach of the Russian freestyle wrestling team and the Vice-President of the Russian Wrestling Federation. He became the first Chechen athlete who won the silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.
