Pleadings in case against Karpyuk and Klykh postponed

In Grozny, the court, engaged in consideration in the criminal case against Ukrainian citizens Stanislav Klykh and Nikolai Karpyuk, has postponed the pleadings to May 5, since their advocates did not come to the trial.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from October 27, 2015, the criminal case against Stanislav Klykh and Nikolai Karpyuk is being considered by the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic with the involvement of the jury. On April 21, it was announced that the judicial investigation had been completed.

The defendants are charged with involvement in the killings of at least 30 soldiers and officers during the first Chechen war. Stanislav Klykh and Nikolai Karpyuk deny their involvement in the conflict in Chechnya and claim being tortured.

The chairing judge has dismissed the advocates who failed to come to the trial and rescheduled the court hearing for May 5. The Bar Association has sent to the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic a new group of advocates to defend Stanislav Klykh and Nikolai Karpyuk.
