Residents of North-Caucasian regions celebrate May Day with rallies

All regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) held rallies on the occasion of the Spring and Labour Day. Participants of the rallies spoke for the decrease in food prices, the fight against unemployment, and the increase of salaries and pensions.

In Dagestan, the regional branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation held a rally in Rhodope Boulevard in Makhachkala. The action was attended by about 70 people, including the older generation of communists, veterans of World War II, and members of the Komsomol, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In Karachay-Cherkessia, the republican association of trade union organizations organized a rally in Cherkessk. According to organizers, it was attended by about 2500 people.

According to Raisa Aibazova, Chair of the Karachay-Cherkessia republic association of trade union organizations, in terms of social and economic crisis, "the changes in the country should be based on the availability of credit resources for enterprises of the real sector of the economy, as well as on the increase of purchasing power of people."

In North Ossetia, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) and the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), also celebrated the May Day by rallies. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), two rallies were attended by about 600 people. Organizers and participants of the rallies discussed the problems in the housing sector, unemployment, low salaries and pensions. They also mentioned the need to revive the economy and agriculture and the negative consequences of the sanctions against Russia.

Lawyer Timur Nogaev, who took part in the rally organized by the LDPR, said that he was concerned most of all about social problems, situation of pensioners, and youth unemployment.
