Political analysts see no need for bringing Armenian forces to Nagorno-Karabakh

There are no regular military units of Armenia and Armenian military vehicles in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the Defence Army "brilliantly performs its tasks." This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" by Artsrun Ovannisyan, Press Secretary for the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD).

According to Artsrun Ovannisyan, Serzh Sargsyan has also announced no need to bring soldiers and military vehicles from Armenia to Karabakh. Artsrun Ovannisyan has emphasized that the Armenian President has also added that in case "if the situation reaches a critical point," then "Armenia will provide appropriate assistance to Karabakh."

When asked what situation may be considered as critical and at what moment of time the Armenian troops and military vehicles may be brought to Karabakh, Artsrun Ovannisyan has preferred not to answer. He has explained the refusal to answer by his unwillingness "to reveal the strategic steps of the Armenian army."

"The Karabakh army is able to independently solve the tasks assigned to it," agreed MP Edmond Marukyan, the leader of the "Light Armenia" Party, in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Edmond Marukyan has emphasized that Armenia has always claimed being the guarantor of the Karabakh's security. "If the problem of security of the people of Artsakh arises, then Armenia, of course, will bring its troops and vehicles to Karabakh," Edmond Marukyan has said.

"At present, the Karabakh army is not only able to resist the well-armed forces of Azerbaijan, but it can also drop them back. There is still no need for intervention of the Armenian forces," the MP has concluded.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night of April 2, the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone was escalated. The parties to the conflict were engaged in combat actions with the use of tanks, multiple launch rocket systems, and aircrafts, which resulted in a large number of victims. On April 5, the sides to the conflict declared a truce; however, they periodically accuse each other of violation of agreements on ceasefire.
