Stavropol woman converted to Islam complains about law enforcers' pressure

Policemen try to unfoundedly register at the police station a woman from Stavropol, who is Russian by origin. This was reported by advocate Roza Magomedova, a staff member of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". According to Roza Magomedova, the woman from Stavropol has converted to Islam, and the policemen want to "fingerprint her and take her photo." Thus, the police violate the woman's rights, her advocate insists.

According to Roza Magomedova, on April 23, the woman from Stavropol who had converted to Islam was summoned to the police station.

"I do not mention the surname of the woman for safety reasons. She was summoned to the police station in Stavropol on April 23. While explaining the reason for her registration at the police station, the policemen referred to a certain order to combat terrorism. Meanwhile, the policemen have mentioned that they want to register the woman at the police station, since she has converted to Islam," Roza Magomedova has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the advocate, the Stavropol woman has refused to undergo fingerprinting and photographing and called the police action unlawful.

"In case if the Stavropol woman who converts to Islam is repeatedly summoned to the police station, then we will file a complaint to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA)," Roza Magomedova has noted.
