Nagorno-Karabakh states Azerbaijan placing military facilities in residential areas

As stated by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Nagorno-Karabakh, the deployment by Azerbaijani Armed Forces of military facilities in dwelling settlements is a violation of the international law.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone has again worsened after the armistice announced on April 5. The parties to the conflict have reported about shelling of civilians in the frontline villages. According to the Azerbaijani party, one local resident was killed during the shelling, and eight others were wounded. Later it was reported that another Azerbaijani villager died in hospital after the shelling.

Today, the MoD of Nagorno-Karabakh posted six photos on its website made by drones, which, according to the Ministry, depict the military objects placed in residential areas of Azerbaijan.

"According to the principles of the international law (Article 52 (General Protection of Civilian Objects) of the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949, On Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War), the military facilities shown in the photos are legitimate targets," the "Sputnik-Armenia" quotes the statement of the MoD of Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to the MoD, "Azerbaijani Armed Forces violate Article 58 (Precautions against the Effects of Attack) of the same protocol; and fail to avoid deploying their military facilities in populated areas or adjacent territories," the "Armenia Today" reports.
