Court dismisses complaint about refusal of CER for Khaiser Djemilev

Today, the Astrakhan Regional Court has upheld the decision of the first instance court to refuse conditional early relief (CER) for Khaiser Djemilev, a son of Mustafa Djemilev, one of the leaders of the Crimean Tatar movement.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, 2015, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced Khaiser Djemilev to five years of imprisonment on the charges of the murder of a family friend by negligence and of theft and possession of weapons. After the verdict had been challenged, his sentence was reduced to 3.5 years of imprisonment, and Khaiser Djemilev was transported to Astrakhan. On February 25, Khaiser Djemilev was refused of CER.

Today, the Astrakhan Regional Court has considered a complaint filed by the defence of Khaiser Djemilev about the refusal of CER and found it well-founded. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by defender Nikolai Polozov.

"We've passed the prescribed instances, and this trial is a springboard to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR)," the advocate has said.

Let us remind you that according to the defence, the prosecution of Khaiser Djemilev in Russia was an attempt to put pressure on his father. Mustafa Djemilev used to be the leader of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, recognized in Russia as an extremist organization. At present, he is the Ukrainian presidential envoy for Crimean Tatar People's affairs.
