Elchin Gasymov faces charges of terrorism
The arrest of Elchin Gasymov, the Deputy Chairman of the movement "Muslim Unity", has been extended by an Azerbaijan court by three months. Gasymov is charged under 13 articles of the Criminal Code.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that power agents detained Elchin Gasymov (Gasimli), an employee of the mosque "Khazrata Abbasa", on November 5, 2015, in his house in the village of Mashtaga. It triggered protests of members of the Muslim community, but the police dispersed their rally.
On April 23, the Nasimi District Court of Baku ruled to extend Gasymov's arrest by three months. He was accused under 13 articles of the Criminal Code, including the articles of "Terrorism in an organized grouping", "Terrorism with the use of firearms" and "Public calls for terror", said Gasymov's advocate Elnur Nabiev, adding that his client rejects all the charges. "Elchin Gasymov figures in the case opened after the arrest of the leader of the 'Muslim Unity' Talek Bagirzade. Elchin was attracted as he had participated in the activities of the movement," said Elnur Nabiev, adding that the judgement to extend Gasymov's arrest will be appealed against.
