Karabakh residents commemorate victims of Armenian Genocide in atmosphere of hostilities

Today, residents of Stepanakert have laid flowers at the memorial to pay tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Meanwhile, unlike in previous years, the city held no mourning procession. This was noted by Albert Voskanyan, a blogger of the "Caucasian Knot", who took part in the mourning event.

According to Albert Voskanyan, the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide was honoured by the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities, religious figures, public activists, and residents of Stepanakert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that every year, on April 24, residents of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and members of the Armenian Diasporas in various countries mark the Day of memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923.

"This year, people hold no usual procession. The hostilities (of April 2-4, 2016) changed the plans. It was visually clear that only a small number of men stayed in the city. Starting from April 2, almost all men left for the front line: some of them left voluntarily, and some of them were called to the colours by the military enlistment office," blogger Albert Voskanyan has written in his today's post entitled "Stepanakert pays tribute to the victims of the 1915 Genocide".

This morning, Bako Saakyan, President of Nagorno-Karabakh, has laid the flowers at the monument to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Meanwhile, he has stated that "attempts of genocide are still taken in our days." He has also noted that "the events of this April have shown that the Armenians throughout the world are ready to do everything to protect their homeland," the agency "News.am" reports.
