Challenge of judge in case of Karpyuk and Klykh rejected

The demand to disqualify the presiding judge is unjustified, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has ruled.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 18 the defence tried to challenge the judge, who is considering the criminal case against the citizens of Ukraine Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh.

"According to the SC, our disagreement with the results of the judge's consideration of defence's motions is insufficient to disqualify the judge," said Dokka Itslaev, a Karpyuk's advocate.

Let us remind you that the case is being considered since October 27, 2015, with the participation of a jury. The defendants are accused of involvement in the murder of at least 30 servicemen during the first Chechen campaign. Karpyuk and Klykh deny their participation in the conflict and claim of torture during the investigation.
