Azerbaijan demands to make Armenia liable for shelling
Armenia should be held legally responsible for the shelling of dwelling settlements and killings of civilians in the Karabakh conflict zone, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has stated.
Today in Baku, Khikmet Gadjiev, the spokesman of the Azerbaijani MFA, made his comments on the allegations of the MFA and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia about a violation by the Azerbaijani party of the Geneva Conventions, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
According to Mr Gadjiev, it was "Armenia itself violating" the international humanitarian law. "The Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, the policy of bloody ethnic cleansings in the occupied territories, the genocide in Khojaly, torture of Azerbaijani captives and hostages, murders and burials in mass graves, and other similar war crimes against humanity have been documented and presented to international organizations," says the statement of Khikmet Gadjiev.
The statement also claims that during the escalation of the conflict "on April 2-5, Armenia shelled 32 dwelling settlements." As a result of artillery shelling, six civilians were killed, including two children, 26 people were seriously wounded, the statement of the Azerbaijani MFA emphasized.
The spokesman of the Azerbaijani MFA has also accused the Armed Forces of Armenia "of inflicting controlled missile strikes at social institutions, including schools, hospitals and places of worship."
