Girl-victim of cruel treatment placed in Makhachkala shelter
A young girl-resident of Dagestan, who was kept on the chain by her relatives, has received medical and psychological care. She was placed into a social-rehabilitation centre for minors in Makhachkala. The mockeries on the girl are broadly discussed in social networks among residents of the republic.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 7 investigators said that they were checking messages that in the village of Prigorodnoye, Kizlyar District, a 15-year-old girl was kept at home on a chain and beaten up, in order to "dishabituate her from immoral lifestyle." She managed to escape from the house; and when policemen found her, the girl refused to return home.
In connection with complaints of the girl about ill-treatment, the issue is now considered about deprivation of her parents of their parental rights, said a law enforcement source.
Keeping a relative on a chain for immoral behaviour is not specific for the region and is causing shock, said Milrad Fatullaev, the director of the regional news agency "Derbent".
He believes that the appearance of such phenomena, unusual for the region, has to do with the collapse of the traditional lifestyle of Caucasians. According to his version, this process began back in the Soviet era.
Dagestan lacks any statistics on the so-called "honour killings", since the information about such crimes is concealed by relatives, said the experts, interviewed stated the "Caucasian Knot".
