Court upholds NGO "Ghasr" in preservation of historic appearance of building in Baku

The Supreme Court (SC) of Azerbaijan has upheld the demand of the "Ghasr" to dismantle the mobile operator's tower from a historic building in central Baku.

The litigation has lasted for almost 3 years: the first hearing of the case was held on June 25, 2013.

The NGO "Ghasr", which is engaged in protection of cultural heritage, filed a lawsuit demanding to remove the antenna belonging to the "Azercell Telekom" from the roof of the railway station in Azadlyg Avenue. The NGO also demanded to collect from the defendant the examination cost of 100 manats.

The courts had repeatedly supported the activists, but each time the operator filed complaints to higher instances. Finally, the NGO managed to win the case at the SC, which on March 30 rejected the cassation complaint lodged by the "Azercell Telekom", the "Contact.az" reports.
