Investigators: armed grouping planned attack on residence of Armenian President
At the press conference held in Yerevan on March 30, Mikhael Ambartsumyan, the first deputy chief of the Investigating Department of the National Security Service of Armenia, people involved as defendants in the case against an armed grouping were plotting attacks against a number of governmental and administrative buildings in Armenia.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in November, more than 20 people suspected of involvement in an armed grouping were detained in Yerevan.
The members of the armed grouping started their activities in May 2015, and in September-October 2015, they attracted the attention of the secret services, noted Mikhael Ambartsumyan at the press conference.
According to him, the defendants of the case were plotting to carry out an armed coup d'etat.
Mikhael Ambartsumyan has shown schemes and maps seized from the detainees, where the objects of the planned attack were marked; moreover, it was also indicated who of the defendants was to be engaged in the seizure of what building.
According to investigators, the number of the object of attack included, in particular, buildings of the residence of the President, the Constitutional Court, and the Parliament, government buildings, as well as the building of the Public Television of Armenia.
The case involves 33 people as suspects, of whom 28 are being kept in custody, reports Mikhael Ambartsumyan.
