Complaint about torture of Inal Berov filed to ECtHR

The "Legal Initiative" has filed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) a complaint from Inal Berov, a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria. He complains being tortured during his detention by law enforcers in March 2012. According to Inal Berov's father, although four years have already passed since those events, the health state of his son is far from good.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 12, 2012, Muradin Berov, the father of Inal Berov, claimed that on March 6, law enforcers detained and then beat and tortured his 29-year-old son Inal, seeking his confession of a crime, in which he was not involved. The man did not confess, and they released him.

The complaint to the ECtHR was sent on March 24, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by members of the "Legal Initiative" on March 29.

According to the complaint, a copy of which is available to the "Caucasian Knot", the law enforcers who detained Inal Berov demanded from him to confess to robbery.

The authors of the complaint emphasize that investigators refused to initiate criminal proceedings against the law enforcers identified by Inal Berov and that proceedings in the criminal case against unidentified law enforcers had been suspended "because of failure to identify the suspects."
