Kremlin treats exchange of Nadezhda Savchenko as theoretically possible

Nadezhda Savchenko, a citizen of Ukraine, sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment, can be exchanged, but the decision should be made personally by the President of Russia. This was stated by Sergey Ivanov, Chief of the Presidential Administration of Russia. Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the Ukrainian "Fatherland" Party, reports that the agreement on the extradition of Nadezhda Savchenko has been already achieved.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 22, the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region sentenced Nadezhda Savchenko to 22 years of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony and a fine of 30,000 roubles. She was found guilty of involvement in the killing of Russian journalists not far from Lugansk and illegal crossing of the border with the Russian Federation.

On March 25, during his visit to Beijing, Sergey Ivanov, Chief of the Presidential Administration of Russia, stated that the possibility for exchange of Nadezhda Savchenko might be considered.

"Theoretically, it is possible, but only under two conditions. The first condition is complete compliance with the legislation of Russia. And the second condition means that such a decision may be made by the President of the Russian Federation only," emphasized Sergey Ivanov.

Besides, on March 25, Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the Ukrainian "Fatherland" Party (and Nadezhda Savchenko is a member of the Party's faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine), reported that the agreement on the extradition of Nadezhda Savchenko had been virtually achieved. According to Yulia Tymoshenko, President Vladimir Putin was persuaded by the leaders of the United States and Germany.

"According to our information, there is a decision that she will be sent to Ukraine in exchange or in accordance to the international legal documents to serve her sentence. There are great chances. And these chances appeared thanks to the US President and the Chancellor of Germany, the global leaders of the first level, who had persuaded Vladimir Putin to give out Nadezhda," the "Interfax" quotes Yulia Tymoshenko as stating.
