Bashir Pliev included in programme for rehabilitation of torture victims

The "Committee for the Prevention of Torture" uses the funds of the programme for rehabilitation of torture victims to help Bashir Pliev, beaten in an attack on human rights defenders and journalists on the border of Ingushetia and Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 9, at the border of Ingushetia and Chechnya, a group of journalists and human rights defenders was beaten, as well as driver Bashir Pliev, who drove them in his minivan to Grozny. The attackers burned down the vehicle. Bashir Pliev became the victim most seriously beaten in the attack: his arm and leg were broken, and he got a lot of bruises and abrasions and a serious traumatic brain injury.

On March 15, activists launched the charity action "Raise a Bus", under which they announced the aim to collect 1.5 million roubles for rehabilitation and a new vehicle for Bashir Pliev. The collection of money was completed in a week, and on March 21, the amount of money transferred for Bashir Pliev reached 1.5 million roubles.

On March 21, when commenting on the completion of the charity action "Raise a Bus" on Facebook, Igor Kalyapin, the leader of the "Committee for the Prevention of Torture", expressed his willingness to provide financial help to Bashir Pliev.

Today, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Igor Kalyapin that his organization is ready to allocate 500,000 roubles for the purchase of a vehicle.

"There is no secret here. Besides, we also plan to spend a significant amount for Bashir's medical treatment. We have an active programme for rehabilitation of torture victims, and we use it in this case," explains human rights defender.

Bashir Pliev himself has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he feels normal: he is already able to get out of the hospital bed and walk to the bathroom.

"According to the forecasts of the doctors, I can leave the hospital in two weeks," said Bashir Pliev.
