Ingush Muslims go to congress to discuss resignation of Mufti Khamkhoev

The extraordinary congress of Muslims of Ingushetia, which is scheduled for March 29, will consider the resignation of Mufti Isa Khamkhoev, said Ulan Evloev, Chairman of the Board of Clans under the republic's administration, adding that the congress of Muslim is convened by the Council of Alims of the Muftiate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after Isa Khamkhoev's participation in the gathering of Sufism followers in Grozny on February 2, the Board of Ingush clans urged him to resign. The gathering adopted a resolution, treating "Wahhabism as a terrorist trend, directed against the fundamental Sharia laws and aiming to split Muslims all over the world."

"On March 29, the congress of Muslims of Ingushetia will be attended by Imams and prominent Muslims from all the Ingush parishes, which are parts of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the republic," Ulan Evloev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

On the eve of the congress, the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, has treated the situation in the republic's religious environment as unhealthy. On March 14, during his meeting with Ingush MPs, Mr Evkurov said that "the Muftiate should no be transformed into one's personal fiefdom," says the press service of the head and the government of Ingushetia.

Mr Evkurov is sure that there is a need to reform the Muftiate (the Islamic High Council); and this issue should also be discussed at the forthcoming congress of Ingush Muslims.
