Brother of killed deputy of Tabasaran District claims being beaten by law enforcers

In Dagestan, law enforcers beat a brother of Ramis Mirzakhanov, a deputy of the Tabasaran District Assembly, who was killed in 2014. This was reported by Ruslan Mirzakhanov himself. He associates the attack on him with his efforts to bring to responsibility the persons guilty of his brother's death.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 15, 2014, Ramis Mirzakhanov, a deputy of the Tabasaran District Assembly, was killed in the village of Akka of the Tabasaran District of Dagestan. The information about the deputy's murder came to the SMS-service of the "Caucasian Knot", and its author claimed that Ramis Mirzakhanov was killed in a special operation. According to an official from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), Ramis Mirzakhanov was hiding in his house a relative involved in the armed underground. In their turn, relatives of Ramis Mirzakhanov claimed that he was not involved in the armed underground and did not support the ideas of Wahhabism, and they demanded from the law enforcers to admit their mistake.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Ruslan Mirzakhanov that he was beaten on March 10 after he visited Sergey Chenchik, the head of the Chief Department for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and complained about the inaction of the law enforcement authorities in connection with the case of his murdered brother.

According to the victim, he was struck on his shoulder and on his side, and after that he heard a threat of violence. "Those actions ... have made me to understand that there is a direct threat against me, my family members, and my relatives. And that direct threat comes from law enforcers, if I do not cease to file complaints on criminal cases, since they are likely not interested in investigation into those cases," Ruslan Mirzakhanov believes.
