Attack in Ingushetia is the third attack on JMG in Caucasus since December 2014
The attacks on the members of the Joint Mobile Group (JMG) and its office in Ingushetia were preceded by the pogrom of the JMG office in Grozny on June 3, 2015, and a fire therein on December 13, 2014. Nils Mujzhnieks, the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe, has condemned the attack on rights defenders and journalists. According to his story, Russian authorities must prevent any attacks on the JMG.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 9, at the Chechen-Ingush border, a minivan of the JMG was attacked; as a result, nine persons were injured. Besides, the headquarters of rights defenders in Ingushetia was attacked.
The Council under the Russian President on Development of Civil Society and Human Rights has expressed its concern over the incident and stated the need for its thorough investigation.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on December 11, 2014, during a press conference "Collective punishment as a method of combating armed underground in Chechnya", held at the Independent Press Centre in Moscow, two young men of Caucasian appearance threw eggs at Igor Kalyapin, the head of the "Committee against Torture", and Alexander Cherkasov, the Chairman of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". However, the policemen, who carried out a check of the attack on the demand of Kalyapin, refused to open a criminal case.
