Advocate was not admitted to colony to Ilgar Mamedov

At the Azerbaijani colony, where the oppositionist Ilgar Mamedov is serving his term, the personnel demanded from his advocate Fuad Agaev a permit from the managers of the Penitentiary Service to meet his client. The lawyer has treated this demand as a violation of the law.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 17, 2014, Ilgar Mamedov, the leader of the "Republican Alternative" (ReAl), was sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of organizing mass disorders in the city of Ismayilli on January 23-24, 2013. The Court of Appeal had upheld the verdict.

In May 2014, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) found a violation of Mamedov's rights and obliged the Azerbaijani authorities to pay him compensation in the amount of 22,000 euros.

Fuad Agaev said that today he arrived in Colony No. 2 located in a suburb of Baku to meet his client. According to the advocate, back in 2014 he presented a letter authorizing him to meet Mamedov. Agaev treats the actions of the colony staff as illegal.

Mamedov's colleagues are concerned for his fate, said Natig Jafarli, the executive secretary of the ReAl Movement. He drew attention to the fact that Mamedov's rights were violated a week after he was visited in the colony by Pedro Agramunt, the President of the PACE.
