Azerbaijani MFA states ineligibility of Georgia's recognition of NKR

The decision of the US state of Georgia to recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) is detrimental to the peace talks, said the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), adding that the USA do not recognize the independence of the NKR.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 3 the House of Representatives of the US state of Georgia adopted a resolution "On Recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic". The NKR views it as an important political step.

Under the US legislation, decisions made by US states on recognition of certain territorial formations are illegitimate, said Khikmet Gadjiev, the spokesman of the MFA of Azerbaijan.

According to his version, "such provocative actions are detrimental to the peace talks, as well as to the efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in the region."

The USA "do not recognize the NKR", the spokesman of the US Embassy in Baku told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in his turn. "The US foreign policy is defined by the Federal Government; while the resolution adopted by the Chamber of Representatives of Georgia with regard to the NKR is an expression of the view of the legislative body of the state, and doesn't change the US foreign policy on this subject," he explained.
