Prosecutor's office refutes information about minors' riot at Krasnodar SIZO

Members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) were informed about the riots in SIZO-1 (pre-trial prison) in Krasnodar by the mother of one of the minors. According to the woman, her 17-year-old son, who is sight-impaired from childhood, was attacked.

To verify this information, the SIZO-1 of Krasnodar was visited by Vyacheslav Potapov and Marina Romanova, members of the POC.

"According to the teenager, he was attacked, received a blow on the back of his head, after which he lost consciousness. Then, when came to himself, he was placed into the dungeon, where we met him," said Marina Romanova.

Also, the members of the POC said that they found that mass riots among minors broke out at the SIZO not long ago, allegedly because of regular humiliations and insults from the staff of the SIZO. They also found that teens broke several surveillance cameras. Then, a group of minors was placed into an unheated dungeon.

According to Ms Romanova, the materials of the check, conducted by the POC members, will be sent to the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory and the Commissioner (Ombudsperson) for Children's Rights.

Andrei Adamov, the spokesman of the Territorial Department of the Russian Federal Penal Enforcement Service (known as FSIN), has confirmed that a group of minors were placed into the dungeon "for a wilful violation of the regime." He said that the minors had spoiled a number of video devices, used for surveillance of the cell, the "Kommersant" wrote on March 3.

"Any rebellion or disobedience is out of question," said Adamov.
