Volgograd: drivers criticize repair of "guest routes" on eve of 2018 FIFA World Cup

During the preparation of Volgograd to the FIFA World Cup, the city plans to build a number of key transport routes, including a road through the city along the Volga River, and to repair the road to the airport. Some sections of "guest routes" inside the city have already been repaired. The repair works were completed in the past year; however, according to NGO activists and motorists, new potholes have already appeared on the repaired roads.

"Zhukov Avenue was repaired in the past year. And after four months after the completion of the repair, we can observe washboard on the roads. Meanwhile, no hot weather impacted the repaired roads," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Alexei Ulyanov, the leader of the NGO "Public Independent Inspection".

"It turns out that the quality of the materials used in the manufacture of asphalt concrete and in the repair works was poor. Holes repeatedly appeared around sewage wells. Now they are repaired a bit, but it looks terrible," Alexei Ulyanov has added.

According to the activist, after the frosts, "a huge hole in the asphalt appeared" in Khoroshev Street. "The reconstruction of Angarsk Street is also terrible," complained Alexei Ulyanov. He has emphasized that the FIFA World Cup will be held in nearly two years, and the renovated facility is already in the condition requiring a new repair.
