Auction on "Olympic" cottages in Sochi thwarted

Not a single application has been submitted by potential customers to the auction for the sale of the so-called "Olympic" cottages, which the Sochi Mayoralty had planned to hold today, on March 1.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in summer of 2015, the Mayoralty decided to sell through an auction 51 cottages built near the Olympic Park in the Imereti Lowland. Initially, these houses were intended for resettlement of the people, who had lost their housing because of the construction of the sporting facilities for the Winter Olympic Games-2014.

The average cost of a cottage was 21 million roubles; the minimum price was 8.5 million roubles. As of February 2, out of 51 cottages offered for sale, only two houses were sold in six months.

According to the spokesman of the Sochi Mayoralty, today it was planned to hold an auction for the sale of the remaining 49 cottages.

"The auction, appointed for March 1, to which the Mayoralty had submitted the above 49 cottages in the residential neighbourhood 'Tavrichesky', has failed because of the absence of applications from potential buyers," Tatiana Moskalenko, an employee of the Department of Property Relations of the Sochi Mayoralty, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us remind you that since 2011 residents of the "Olympic" settlement in Sochi have been complaining about its derelict condition and misuse. The residents interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" stated that the initials cost of the cottages claimed by the Mayoralty is unreasonably overpriced.
