Resident of Chechnya convicted for helping militants

The Urus-Martan City Court has sentenced a 24-year-old local resident, accused of helping militants, to 2.5 years in a general-security colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2015, his criminal case was transferred to the court.

"The Urus-Martan City Court has passed a sentence against Magomed Makaev, a local resident, under Part 5, Article 33, and Part 2, Article 208, of the Russian Criminal Code (helping participant of an illegal armed formation (IAF)). Taking into account all the circumstances of the case, and the fact that the defendant had entered into a pre-trial agreement with investigators, helped to expose his accomplices, and repented of his criminal actions, the court has sentenced Makaev to 2.5 years of imprisonment in a general-security colony and subsequent restriction of freedom for one year," the spokesman of the Chechnya's Ministry of Justice (MoJ) told the "Caucasian Knot".

According to his story, the above resident of the Urus-Martan District was sentenced on February 26.

According to investigators, in December 2014 Makaev helped a certain Suleimanov, an active IAF member, who is on the federal wanted list.
