Workers of "Sedin" Factory in Krasnodar demand nationalization

Problems of the Krasnodar-based "Sedin" Factory can be solved only through nationalization, said Alexei Kuznetsov, Deputy Chief Designer of the enterprise. Workers intend to put forward this demand to the Russian President's plenipotentiary office for the Southern Federal District (SFD). In the opinion of the MP Sergey Obukhov, the factory's status has worsened after it was excluded from the list of system-forming organizations of Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23 workers held a picket, demanding payment of wages debts and offering nationalization to save the factory. On February 25, 110 factory workers were laid off.

According to Kuznetsov, the products of the factory are in demand at Russian enterprises of the military-industrial complex, and in the aviation, aerospace and shipbuilding sectors.

The factory used to receive orders for its machine tools from Germany, Australia, Iran and South Africa. In the 2000s, they designed the machining centre named "Vertimaster VMG-32", which was demanded by German enterprises. According to Kuznetsov, they called it "a machine tool of the future."

Recently, the factory has created a new-generation machine tool – the VMG-50 processing complex.

"Our hopes for further development of the factory were associated with this complex; however, while implementing this project, the factory occurred on the verge of bankruptcy," said Kuznetsov.

Sergey Obukhov, an MP of the Russian State Duma from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), said that only 48 enterprises from the list of 2008, which included 295 organizations, could get financial help from the state budget. The "Sedin" Factory is not among these 48.

According to the Russian Ministry for Economic Development, the Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) "Krasnodar 'Sedin' Factory" is not on the list of Russian system-forming organizations, compiled in 2015.
