GPO sends request on Kadyrov's statements to Chechnya
The request of the Saint Petersburg Deputy Maxim Reznik, demanding to check the statements of Ramzan Kadyrov for extremism, has been resent by the Russia's General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) to the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya. Maxim Reznik intends to challenge the GPO's decision.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that recently the head of Chechnya attracted public attention by his attacks on the Russia's non-systemic opposition. On January 12, he stated that this opposition should be treated "as people's enemies and traitors." On January 18, Maxim Reznik lodged an application to the GPO demanding to check Kadyrov's statements for the presence of extremism.
The GPO has redirected his request to the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya, Mr Reznik said today, adding that he "would appeal against the GPO's decision as an illegal one."
"In accordance with the federal law on countering extremist activities, such issues should be considered by the General Public Prosecutor or his deputy [not the Prosecutor's Office of the region]. The position of the GPO is the position of an ostrich that hides its head into the sand. It is another confirmation of the fact that federal authorities fail to control the situation in Chechnya," the "Interfax" quotes Maxim Reznik as saying.
