Power of explosion in Dagestan was at least 30 kg of TNT equivalent

According to various sources, the power of the explosion, triggered at the Djemikent checkpoint of the GIBDD (traffic police), was 30-50 kilos of TNT (trotyl) equivalent. There is a version that there were two bombs in the blasted car.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today a car was blasted in the morning at the checkpoint near the village of Djemikent. Power bodies suggest that it was triggered by a suicide bomber, whose remains were found at the site. The information about two killed and 18 wounded persons has been officially confirmed. Other sources report about four casualties, including the suicide bomber.

The video report "Explosion at the Djemikent GIBDD checkpoint (Dagestan)", posted by the "Caucasian Knot", shows at least three burning cars. According to an eyewitness, he filmed the video "a few minutes" after the explosion.

The fact that the power of the explosive device, made "from the regular shells", was 30 kg of TNT equivalent, was reported by the RIA "Novosti" at 1:58 p.m. with reference to a law enforcement source.

In its turn, the NTV reported at 1:49 p.m., with reference to the spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), that the power of the explosion could reach up to 50 kg of TNT equivalent.

The team of experts has preliminarily estimated that the exploded VAZ-2109 car was stuffed with a mixture of ammonium nitrate and aluminium powder, and the power of the explosion was 30 kg of TNT equivalent, the "Interfax" reported at 2:45 p.m.

The exploded car could contain two 122-mm-calibre artillery shells; and the remains of the suicide bomber are only a fragment of the head, a foot and a hand, the TASS reported at 12:45 a.m., citing its law enforcement source.
