Argun residents condemn suspects of supporting ISIL

On February 13, residents of the city of Argun gathered in the local mosque to publicly condemn young men and women, accused of supporting radical Islam and calling to go to warfare in Syria. The gathering was also held with participation of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who reported about the events on the following day in his Instagram.

"People gathered to express their condemnation to a group of young people, who called to support the ISIL, spread symbols thereof, criticized the republic's leadership, theologians, etc. Parents and close relatives of boys and girls were also invited to the meeting. Those present were also the head of the republic, top officials of Chechnya and Argun, and well-known theologians. They condemned the actions of young people, and declared the inadmissibility of such actions in the future," a source from the republic's Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

A video report about the meeting in the mosque of Argun was shown in the evening on February 14 by the "Grozny" TV Cannel. Ramzan Kadyrov stated, while addressing the audience, that the detained boys and girls "had stated the lack of the freedom of belief in Chechnya and intended to go to Syria." His greatest indignation was caused by the fact that a son of the policeman earlier killed by Chechen militants was among them. Besides, Kadyrov showed a printout of the photos posted on the Internet of one of the girls, surrounded with ISIL flags, and demanded from the city authorities, Imams and parents to control the actions of young people, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
