Trial of Rasim Aliev's murder disrupted in Baku

The court that is considering the murder case of Rasim Aliev refused to summon as witnesses the doctors of the clinic, where the journalist died after being beaten. This caused a protest of the defendants and their relatives. In order to drive the protesters out of the courtroom, court marshals used tear gas.

Rasim Aliev was beaten up on August 8, 2015, and died on the following day in hospital. Six persons are figurants of his death case.

Today, in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the defence put forward a motion to summon the doctors from City Clinical Centre No. 1, who examined and treated Aliev after the beating, as witnesses, said Fariz Namazly, an advocate of the relatives of the late journalist.

"However, the presiding judge Eldar Ismailov rejected the motion," the advocate told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In response, the defendants' parents began protesting violently. "They shouted and stamped their feet. The defendants also began shouting and beating the glass of their cage with their hands. The judges hurriedly left the room. Then the court marshals demanded from people to leave the courtroom. When they refused, the marshals used tear gas," said Namazly.

The defendants' parents, driven out of the courthouse, emotionally commented on what happened in the courtroom.

"This is not a trial, but some show. All is known in advance; and our children will be convicted for the crime they never committed. After one or two blows a person shouldn't die. We need to ask doctors why they failed to render effective medical care to the young man. He was killed by doctors," said Kenana Madatova, the mother of the accused Ilham Madatov.
