In case of attack on Nalchik, advocate criticizes the verdict

Advocate Timur Lakunov, who represents the interests of Eduard Mironov, sentenced to life imprisonment, has called the decision of the Court of Appeal a biased and announced the intention to challenge it at cassation instance.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 28, the judicial board on criminal cases of the Russian Supreme Court (SC) refused to cancel life sentences to five men convicted in the criminal case on the attack on Nalchik, while having reduced the sentences to the defendants involved in the case.

The appeals against the sentences in the case were filed by 49 out of 56 convicts. Most of them claim to have been involved in the events by fraud.

"In this case with volumes of materials, the court spent only two days in the conference room. This time is not enough even for a simple study of arguments set out at the court of appeal, let alone the possibility to discuss, analyze and refute or confirm them and reach a consensus," Timur Lakunov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
