Dagestani authorities announce return of 65 militants to civilian life in 2015

During 2015, Dagestani law enforcement bodies and reconciliation commission received 65 applications on abandoning terrorist activities, said the participants of the sitting of the republic's antiterrorist commission.

The final sitting of this commission was held in Dagestan on January 29 with the participation of the head of the republic Ramazan Abdulatipov and Sergey Melikov, the presidential envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).

In 2015, the republic hosted over 2500 targeted preventive talks and over 1700 public antiterrorist actions, it was announced at the sitting. As a result of these measures, as well as of the work of the regional centres of the antiterrorist commission, 65 members of the armed underground and their helpers filed applications on voluntary renunciation of terrorism, says the website of the head of Dagestan.

With regard to measures to prevent the spread of extremism on the Internet, then, according to the commission, from July to December 2015, around a hundred resources with extremist content were revealed in the Internet, more than 40 of them were blocked.

According to Igor Sirotkin, Deputy Director of Russian FSB, although in 2015 96 militants were killed in the republic, "the underground still managed to replenish the loss, which means that there is still the base of helpers".

Melikov, in turn, said that in 2015 17 law enforcers were wounded.
