Residents of Sarpinsky Island complain about problems because of absence of permanent crossing
A temporary passenger crossing between the river Sarpinsky Island and Volgograd is organized by the municipal rescue service, but it operates only twice a day and carries people by a snowmobile, not a steamer, the island residents complain. The Mayoralty promises to launch regular transportation from February 10.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 1 the route between the Sarpinsky Island and Volgograd was closed because of financial claims of the LLC "Passenger Port of Volgograd" to the city. The authorities of Volgograd and the port are negotiating the resumption of regular transport service.
According to the Volgograd Mayoralty, the constant population of the island is about 800 people. Since January 1, the only means of communication between the island and Volgograd is the snowmobile.
It travels to and fro twice a day, said Yuri Ratnikov, the chairman of the committee of civil protection of the Volgograd administration.
Alexander Denekin, a pensioner and a resident of the farm named "Kozhzavod" located on the island, goes to Volgograd several times a week to buy drugs and food. The islanders are accustomed to such emergencies – the "make food stocks, relying on their own forces."
Stocks are never enough; and the elderly are forced to use the crossing, Elena Grigorievna, a pensioner, said in her turn.
The snowmobile takes five passengers. It is not intended for a permanent job at crossing, and sometimes breaks, Stanislav Demenko, a driver and an employee of the municipal rescue service, has admitted.
