Builders in Grozny began digging a pit for 400-meter tower
In central Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, they have started the main construction works of erecting a skyscraper, "Akhmat Tower", the highest building not only in Russia, but also in Europe. The tower will have 108 floors, and its opening up will create up to a thousand workplaces.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the plans to build a high-rise tower, named after the former head of the republic Akhmat Kadyrov, were announced by the Chechen government in September 2013. It was noted that the construction will take place for the funds of attracted investors, including foreign ones. The overall construction costs will make from 120 to 500 million US dollars.
The technical and financial support for the construction work is carried out by a world famous company "Emaar Properties" from the United Arab Emirates, which built the building "Burj Khalifa" in Dubai, which has the height of about 830 meters.
According a source from the administration of Grozny, residents of Chechnya are mostly negative to such large-scale constructions. According to their version, the republic, especially during the economic crisis, needs in the first place factories and enterprises, including agricultural ones.
A former employee of one of the republic's ministries named Liza said that the republic's leadership "is suffering from unhealthy suffering gigantism."
Also, many residents of Grozny express surprise at the fact that the construction of the 400-meter tower is carried out in a seismic zone.
