Two suspects of smuggling weapons detained in North Ossetia
North Ossetian law enforcers have detained two citizens, who tried to carry in the trunk of their car a Kalashnikov submachine gun, and 88 7.62-mm calibre rounds. Criminal cases have been opened on illegal acquisition and storage, as well as smuggling the firearms.
The detention was held on January 21 at the automobile checkpoint "Nizhny Zaramag". According to investigators, the detainees are active members of an organized criminal grouping and were involved in illicit trafficking in firearms and organization of the supply chain.
"The detention of the criminals was a logical culmination of the operative action against this grouping, whose members were selling guns and ammunition in the territory of North Ossetia," said the website of the Chief Department of the Russian MIA for the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) on January 22.
"Earlier, the detainees had sold a submachine gun, four pistols, a revolver and over 100 cartridges of various calibres," the report says.
