"Kommersant": court appoints psychiatric examination for Stanislav Klykh

Court hearings in the criminal case against Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh, citizens of Ukraine, accused of involvement in the combat actions in the territory of Chechnya, have been postponed for an indefinite period of time. At the request of his advocate, Stanislav Klykh is to undergo a forensic psychiatric examination.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 27, the Supreme Court of Chechnya started consideration of the criminal case against Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh, citizens of Ukraine, accused of involvement in the combat actions in the territory of Chechnya.

According to investigators, Nikolai Karpyuk and Stanislav Klykh were members of the UNA-UNSO, founded in the early 1990s and recognized in Russia as an extremist organization. The defendants are accused of leadership and involvement in a criminal grouping, murder, and attempt on two or more people during the first Chechen war. Nikolai Karpyuk has denied his involvement in the conflict in Chechnya and claimed being tortured in the course of the investigation.

Vakhit Ismailov, who chaired the trial, has granted the motion filed by advocate Marina Dubrovina, who insisted that Stanislav Klykh is mentally ill. On January 18, the defendant was sent to the forensic psychiatric examination to be carried out in one of the clinics of the capital of Chechnya. Thus, the court hearings have been postponed for an indefinite period of time, the "Kommersant" reports today.

According to Marina Dubrovina, advocates felt doubts in the health state of Stanislav Klykh immediately after the start of the court hearings.

"Quite unexpectedly for us, Klykh began to rustle in the courtroom: he stamped his feet, shouted at participants of the trial and used bad language," Marina Dubrovina has noted.

The advocate has also reported that her client behaved inadequately while communicating with his defenders.
