Russia refuses to extradite Khaiser Djemilev to Ukraine

The Russian General Prosecutor's Office has dismissed the request of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Ukraine for the extradition of Khaiser Djemilev, who is sentenced in the Krasnodar Territory and who is a son of Mustafa Djemilev, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This was reported by advocate Nikolai Polozov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 10, 2015, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced Khaiser Djemilev to five years of imprisonment in a penal colony on the charges of involuntary manslaughter of Fevzi Edemov, a family friend, and theft and possession of weapons. After the verdict had been challenged, the sentenced to Khaiser Djemilev was reduced to 3.5 years of imprisonment. The son of the deputy of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada was initially transported to Astrakhan. On December 8, advocate Nikolai Polozov reported that he had filed a motion on conditional early relief (CER) for Khaiser Djemilev.

According to the defence, the trial in the case against Khaiser Djemilev was an attempt to put pressure on his father Mustafa Djemilev, the former head of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis. Mustafa Djemilev lives in Kiev, and he is an envoy of the Ukrainian President for affairs of the Crimean Tatar people.

On January 12, Nikolai Polozov reported in Twitter that Khaiser Djemilev would serve his sentence in the territory of Russia. The motion on the CER for Khaiser Djemilev will be considered by the Soviet District Court of Astrakhan, the "TASS" reports.
